I don't quite understand: violent repression in Iran is unacceptable, while the same in the USA is OK?

No, violent repression anywhere is unacceptable. But in an established democracy, it is worse because there is a public expectation that ‘that doesn’t happen over here.’ Mind you, we are living in different times now and our expectations are changing rapidly.

What I meant is that Trump threatens Iran if it harms its civilians; yet at the saem time he condones harming citizens protesting within the US>
